A public draft of Being Prepared for Climate Change: A Workbook for Developing Risk-Based Adaptation Plans is available for public involvement and peer input. Feedback will be used to "inform revisions to the draft product so that the final work product will reflect sound technical information and analyses."
This workbook was developed as part of a response to several calls for strategic planning for climate change, including:
- Recommendation 3, Action 11 from the National Action Plan: Priorities for Managing Freshwater Resources in a Changing Climate: "Continue development of tools and approaches that build capacity for water-related institutions to conduct vulnerability assessments and implement appropriate responses."
- National Water Program 2012 Strategy: Response to Climate Change: "Address climate change adaptation and build stakeholder capacity when implementing [National Estuary Program] Comprehensive Conservation and Management Plans and through the Climate Ready Estuaries Program."
- Goal 4 of the National Fish, Wildlife, and Plants Climate Adaptation Strategy: "Identifying, developing, and employing [tools] will help managers facilitate adaptation of individual species, increase habitat resilience, and help identify where changes to the built environment may conflict with ecosystem needs."
